Does Apple’s 3D Navigation in Apple Maps Make Google Maps and Waze Feel Outdated? Not at all, and the large userbase proves this. Many companies are investing hugely in sat nav apps competing against Google Maps.
Apple is one of the largest tech giants with such a goal in mind, Apple Maps is supposed to function as a better option to Google’s offering, Apple Maps has always been a good sat nav app but only valid for people in the USA.
Apple just keeps putting in time and resources into transforming Apple Maps into better mapping software, one of the features it recently launched gets its closer to this.
It’s the 3D navigation support, a feature that debuted with the release of iOS 15 in the fall, now available on CarPlay too.
3D maps don’t look like a big deal. But in terms of other features, you certainly won’t be able to switch back to the 2D maps like before. Apple has put a lot of effort into getting the models right. And it doesn’t all come down to just buildings, they have reproduced everything in Apple Maps, with every detail included in the app for certain locations in the USA.
It’s really easy for a driver to understand where they are by looking outside and exactly which way to go based on the directions provided.
Unfortunately, these features continue to be exclusive to Apple Maps in the USA only, advanced 3D models with such accurate details take a lot of effort, even for Apple.
The 3D navigation is evidence the company has built a powerful alternative to Google Maps. The only thing that’s left is for Apple to figure out how to use these resources more effectively.
