Today marks the launch of Meta’s sponsored verification programme in the US, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s Instagram post. According to Zuckerberg, those who enrol in Meta Verified will receive a blue verification label on Facebook and Instagram, “proactive impersonation protection,” and easy access to customer service.

In order to cover the platform’s part of in-app payments, being a Meta Verified member on the web costs $12 per month while joining through iOS or Android costs $15 per month. You’ll also receive extra stickers for Stories and Reels each month in addition to some stars (which you can use to tip Facebook creators). Verified subscribers in the US won’t yet benefit from greater exposure in some areas of the applications, in contrast to Australia and New Zealand. A spokesman for Meta told Engadget, “We heard criticism that the way this aspect of the product functioned was confusing. As a result, we’re taking the time to better examine its usefulness and learn before we contemplate spreading this component outside of Australia and New Zealand. The business claims that while it is still testing the programme, it will consider adding other capabilities to Verified.

Last month, Meta launched the show in Australia and New Zealand. In contrast to Twitter Blue, where users can pay for a blue check mark and other benefits, Instagram and Facebook users using Verified are required to give Meta a piece of government identification that exactly matches the name and image on their account. In addition, they must be at least 18 years old and have two-factor authentication turned on in order to qualify.
Subscribers who have already been verified by Meta aren’t allowed to modify their username, date of birth, or profile name without agreeing to go through the verification procedure once more. Any well-known Facebook or Instagram account that has been verified in the past will retain their blue check.
