The Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition charges astonishingly fast

Although smartphone charging times have decreased over the years from an already outstanding 30 minutes to just 15 minutes, Xiaomi seems to still find that to be too sluggish. One variant known as the “Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition” stood out in the new Redmi Note 12 lineup introduced earlier today with a massive 210W HyperCharge capabilities. Three 100W rapid charging chips are in charge of this function, and it takes just 9 minutes to fully recharge the phone’s 4,300mAh battery. To put things in perspective, a 4,500mAh battery can be charged in 15 minutes using either Oppo’s 150W SuperVOOC or Xiaomi’s older 120W HyperCharge. Along with a 6.67-inch OLED screen (2,400 x 1,080, 120Hz), 200MP primary camera (Samsung’s brand-new HPX sensor; with OIS), 8MP ultra-wide camera, 2MP macro camera, and 16MP selfie camera, the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition also introduces MediaTek’s mid-range Dimensity 1080 engine. On this Android 12 gadget, you’ll also discover twin SIM slots, dual speakers, a 3.5mm headphone connector, an in-display fingerprint sensor, NFC, and an infrared blaster.

This model only has one RAM and storage configuration: 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB UFS 2.2 storage. This Redmi Note 11 lacks microSD expansion, which may put off consumers seeking an upgrade from last year’s Redmi Note 11 Pro+. Still, not bad for $330 or 2,399 yuan.Despite the name, the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition is really based on the Redmi Note 12 Pro+, with the latter having a larger battery (5,000mAh) but less powerful charging (120W). With 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage as a base price, this model costs 2,199 yuan, or roughly $304. For an additional 2,399 yuan, or roughly $331, you can upgrade the RAM to 12GB.

There is also the less powerful but similarly styled Redmi Note 12 Pro, which replaces the 200MP main camera with a 50MP one (using a Sony IMX766 sensor) and charges its 5,000mAh battery with only 67W. Starting at 1,699 yuan, or around $235, you can have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage; and For 2,199 yuan, or around $304, you can purchase the Pro+’s maximum 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which is strangely also the Pro+’s starting price.

The Redmi Note 12 is marketed as an inexpensive smartphone with prices starting at 1,199 yuan, or roughly $166. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chipset, a similarly sized but significantly inferior OLED display (primarily with poorer brightness and contrast as well as no support for HDR), weaker cameras (48MP main, 2MP depth sensor, and 8MP front), a weaker charging capacity (33W), and only one speaker. It comes in a variety of configurations, starting at 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and increasing all the way to 8GB and 256GB (1,699 yuan, or roughly $235; the same as the Note 12 Pro’s base pricing). These new models may eventually find their way to other markets, just like recent Redmi phones, so we’ll be watching for further information.9
