The rumoured Grand Theft Auto VI leak seems to be accurate. In a tweet, Rockstar Games acknowledged the legitimacy of the leak and stated that a hacker had stolen private information, including “early production footage” of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto game. The company was “very upset” that information about the upcoming game was leaked in this way, but didn’t anticipate any long-term harm to development or live services like GTA Online.
A future update was promised by Rockstar, and the development of GTA VI will go “as planned.” Nothing further was revealed by the game’s creator. However, parent firm Take Two has apparently instructed GTAForums to remove content, which may include code for several GTA games and reportedly includes Bully 2 plans, according to Windows Central.
The leak, which featured 90 footage of a very early build of GTA VI, is unusual. The footage seem to confirm speculations from July that suggested a return to Vice City (a.k.a. Miami) as well as a male and female protagonist duo akin to Bonnie and Clyde. A number of functional changes, including better animations and a robbery system, also seem to have been made.
Given that the final product is probably going to be lot more polished, the GTA VI material might not cause much harm. However, there is a worry that any GTA Online code could make it simpler for hackers to find flaws and harm the game’s experience for other players.
