Google will now slow down hiring to stack up for the economic downturn

Google just announced that they are slowing down the hiring pace for the rest of 2022, telling employees to be more entrepreneurial. A lot like other big tech companies like Meta, CEO Sundar Pichai cited an uncertain global economic outlook for the change of pace and said that the company is now consolidating operations and streamlining where investments overlap.

Google Space of Hiring was also very bumpy in the second quarter of 2022 as the company just added 10,000 new employees to their 163,906 workforce, which was an increase of up to 17% from last year. [Quite a Lot] For the rest of 2022, Google will only focus hiring on engineering, technical, and other crucial roles. “Moving forward, we need to be more entrepreneurial, working with greater urgency, sharper focus, and more hunger than we’ve shown on sunnier days. In some cases, that means consolidating where investments overlap and streamlining processes. In other cases, that means pausing deployment and re-deploying resources to higher priority areas.”

Another big tech company, Microsoft, is also planning to cut a small number of jobs because of a realignment in their business groups. This will affect groups including consulting and partner solutions around the world, although the company does plan to continue hiring in other roles and will finish 2022 with a higher number of employees. Other big tech companies are saying that the slowing economy will affect hiring, like Mark Zuckerberg warning employees that one of the worst downturns in recent history is coming and would affect the company while telling managers to move to exit door performers who are unable to get on track.
