Netflix just partnered with Microsoft for their ad-supported tier

Netflix has just found a partner for its upcoming ad-supported tier, and on Wednesday the company announced that Netflix is now planning to work with Microsoft with their ad-supported plans. In a blog published by Microsoft, the tech giant says that they will provide Netflix with tech and sales expertise.

Just basically a couple of months ago, Google and Comcast were among the best candidates to help Netflix build out the ad-supported tier. But on Wednesday, Netflix said that they had selected Microsoft for the ability to support their customers in a great way. According to Greg Peters, the COO of Netflix, “Microsoft offers the flexibility to innovate over time on both the tech and sales side, as well as strong privacy protections for our members”. Although there probably is a different reason for why Netflix chose Microsoft. If you honestly think about it, every other advertising company like Google and Comcast owns a competing streaming service. It’s just Microsoft that has good recognition and great experience with ads, while also not owning any other competing streaming service.

Reed Hastings, the Co CEO of Netflix Previously said that the company was exploring cheaper plans this past April and the admission came after the company announced that it had lost 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2022.
