Here’s how Reddit is trying out NFTs without making NFTs

Reddit is now trying to get into the digital collectible craze as the company is now launching a new take on NFTS with collectible avatars, which is one of their first forays into blockchain-based tech. These avatars are being created by artists [Most of which are Redditors themselves] And they will be on sale on a new storefront. Currently, a very small group of Reddit users will be able to purchase these avatars by joining the r/CollectibleAvatar subreddit. The company does intend to open the store to every user in the coming weeks, though.

The company isn’t using the word NFT to describe these images that they are now planning to sell on a storefront. These images are blockchain-based, but Reddit is trying to not use the word NFT in the equation as we probably have already understood how unstable these digital collectibles can be.

Currently, Reddit users will now access their avatars via vault, which is the blockchain-based wallet from Reddit. Owning an avatar will give purchasers a license to use the art on and off Reddit, and these avatars can only be paid for with regular Fiat currencies, as the company won’t support cryptocurrency transactions. which seems to be a little off-putting as the whole craze of digital collectibles is rooted in cryptocurrency itself.

Although there is a good side to this, as Reddit users don’t have to worry about the wild fluctuating prices as these avatars will be sold by the company for fixed prices between $9.99 and $99.99. Considering all of this happening, it pushes us to see how red it is, not the only platform trying to experiment with digital collectibles for its users. As Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have also started experimenting with NFT profile photos, YouTube is also joining the club as the executives have expressed interest in the technology.

Currently, these integrations have been focused on allowing users to show off their collections rather than unlocking any special benefits like NFT owners. Although you will get unique benefits on the platform as this avatar will make your main avatar up glow-like effect on the comments and the ability to mix and match the avatar gear with other Reddit avatar gear and accessories, that’s cool if you are a hardcore Reddit user.
