The official Twitter and YouTube accounts of the British Army were compromised on Sunday, and these two accounts are now simultaneously compromised to promote two different types of cryptocurrency scams. Although the data has been scrubbed, the army verified Twitter account was briefly changed to look like a page for the possessed, which is a project involving the collection of 10,000 animated NFTS which have a price floor of 0.58 Etherium which is somewhere near $1000.

This hack of the British armies, YouTube, and Twitter accounts seems like it is a part of a broader campaign to leverage theories and popularity of “The Possessed”. The British Armies YouTube channel has been made to look like a page for ARK Invest, and currently, the channel is live streaming videos that repurpose old footage of Elon Musk, Jack Dorsey, and Arc CEO Katie Wood discussing cryptocurrency. These scams currently feature an overlay promoting the fact that these scammers can double your money with Bitcoin and Ethereum. It’s still very unclear who is behind these attacks, right now.
According to a British Army spokesperson, They are aware of the breach of the Twitter and YouTube accounts and an investigation is underway. They say that they take information security extremely seriously and they are now resolving the issue until the investigation is complete, it will be inappropriate to comment further.
