Facebook is currently experimenting with a new audio feature called audio channels for Facebook groups. The company is bringing audio channels to Facebook groups According to a blog post. Currently, Facebook already has an audio feature called rooms for Facebook groups, but unlike that feature that is meant for audio chats, audio channels will be dedicated spaces where group members will be able to speak with each other at any time. Very much like Discord.

This is one of the many updates the company is testing with its app. There are also experimenting with other different types of channels, like subgroups within each Facebook group, where members will be able to discuss many different specific topics. There will also be community chat channels that will organize group message threads around topics relevant to any given group.
The company is also testing a new sidebar that will make every user’s group more prominent in their app, and it will also bring in new dedicated shortcuts for creating new channels. Currently, these features are all testing, and they will only be available to a very small number of users, but the company intends to make them available to the masses worldwide very soon.

These updates are coming as Facebook is now bringing bigger changes for their main app as they are working on a very big redesign that will reorient users’ feeds with AI-driven recommendations more than their existing social graphs. At the same time, there will be a new sidebar that will be meant to ensure that groups will remain prominently accessible to every user.
