Here’s some updates on Sony and Honda’s EV collab

As you might have known, Sony and Honda recently announced plans to build electric vehicles together with Honda, focusing on manufacturing and Sony is creating the Mobility service platform. Now it looks like the companies might just make a separate business for it.

Sony President and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida did not give any more details to the public, but they did say that there is a possibility that the companies might sell a stake in the joint venture or have an initial public offering. They said that they hope to be able to talk a little about it at some point shortly.

Sony and Honda announced this joint venture back in March, as Sony said that they would aim to fill the world with emotion through the power of creativity and technology. They also said that they wanted to create a mobility system centered around safety, entertainment, and adaptability. Last year, Honda today announced plans to shift their entire vehicle lineup to EVs and fuel cell vehicles by 2040 and as part of that, they are going to be investing $40 billion and launch 30 new EVs by 2030. We still do not know how this Sony collaboration will fit into these plans, but considering Honda is very far behind rivals as its only true EV sold in the West is the Honda E. Partnering up with another company doesn’t seem that bad.

Sony also believes that other tech companies like Apple might soon be jumping into the fray and that EVs will become a lot more connected, very much like gaming consoles.
