Google DeepMind just gained a really Good Fellow


A while back we talked about Ian Goodfellow, who left Apple as an executive. Goodfellow used to oversee applied machine learning and AI efforts Because of the stringent return to office policy.

Ian is reportedly now joining Google’s DeepMind team as an individual contributor. The former Apple executive went on to reference the Apple policy in a note about their departure, address to the staff members at Apple. Although Apple has now softened its stance on dropping more work and they will now launch a pilot that will see some employees come into the office only twice a week, Google has also started implementing a hybrid work plan requiring employees to physically work in their offices some days of the week.

Goodfellow used to supervise the engineers working on an autonomous technology at Apple and developed a system giving Google Maps the ability to automatically transcribe addresses from Street View car photos. However, they are probably most known for inventing generative adversarial networks [Basically Deepfakes] That being said, it doesn’t seem the former executive will return to Apple after the company softened its policies.
