Google announced on their Google IO 2022 developer Keynote that Google Maps is getting an immersive view, offering users digitally rendered looks at major US city skyscapes. This new feature will use computer vision and artificial intelligence to blend the Google Maps, and existing Street View function with aerial photography, creating high-resolution models for various buildings and urban features.

Miriam Daniel, Vice president of Google Maps, said in a blog post, “With our new immersive view, you’ll be able to experience what a neighborhood, landmark, restaurant or popular venue is like — and even feel like you’re right there before you ever set foot inside”.
Other tools and features can also be applied to the view and labeling users to see the area at different times of the day and in different weather conditions. The immersive view will first be available for LA, London, New York, San Francisco, and Tokyo later this year, after which other major cities in the world will follow.
