Because of the current ongoing chip shortage, BMW is shipping some vehicles without Android Auto or Apple Car Play, as the company has changed suppliers and is using different kinds of chips that do not support Android Auto and Apple Car Play.

If you want to see if your BMW has Android Auto or not, you have to check your recently purchased vehicle by checking for a ‘6P1’ in the car’s production code. Also, most of the vehicles manufactured in the first four months of 2022 in the US, France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom, or more prone to be affected by this.
This isn’t the first time BMW has delivered cars missing some essential features to avoid shipping delays. Last fall the company removed touch screen features from some vehicles because of the global chip shortage.
