DuckDuckGo just cracked down on dodgy Internet content, as TorrentFreak just discovered that the search engine no longer lists results for major pirate websites like The Pirate Bay, 1337x, and Fmovies. Stream ripping services like Flixster and 2conv also produce no search results.

The YouTube video download tool YouTube DL also gets no search result placement, despite recent defenses of its legality. Although the RIAA portrayed YouTube DL as a piracy tool, the Electronic Frontier Foundation and GitHub did not find that it rips DRM-protected material.
Torrent Freak says though, liability for copyright violations could be an issue, the company removed pirate “bangs” as far back as 2018. A move like this could protect DuckDuckGo against costly copyright battles.
