ChromeOS is getting variable refresh rate support very soon.


Google is now testing support for variable refresh rates on Chrome OS 101 Dev Channel. If you want to check it out, you will have to enable a flag at (chrome://flags#enable-variable-refresh-rate) Google says that this tech is capable of running with displays that support variable refresh rates.

This new step from Google’s end does show that they’re looking forward to upgrading future Chrome OS tablets. VRR Gets rid of screen tearing by sinking the Refresh Rate with the FPS. This does mean that we could see a smoother gaming experience on Chrome OS, this step does make a lot of sense because Google just announced that Steam is coming very soon to Chrome OS.

Also, considering that there are three potential gaming-focused Chromebooks in the works (Currently a rumor) which is a very big possibility, considering that Google’s Chrome OS added a new flag previously that added keyboard RGB support.

But on the other hand, VRR support could signal an upgraded refresh rate for future Chrome OS tablets. Also, Chrome OS is very clunky when used in tablet form and tablets running Chrome OS with VRR will give them an edge and help them compete with other major players like Samsung and Apple, as the Galaxy Tab S8 has a refresh rate of 120Hz, while the iPad Pro comes with VRR (ProMotion)
