Microsoft is testing ads in File Explorer (Windows 11) This was discovered by Florian Beaubois in the latest test build of Windows 11, prompting the user to check out the Microsoft Editor. The ads appeared for some users out there.
Brandon LeBlanc said in a statement that this was an experimental thing and was not intended to be published externally and was turned off. Even though these ads were not meant to be tested externally, Microsoft is capable of running them inside Windows 11 which prompts us to think that they have plans on running ads in Windows 11. Microsoft has been experimenting with ads inside Windows for a while now as they have already placed ads on the Windows 10 lock screen and the Start menu.
But the thing is that Microsoft isn’t alone in advertising things inside of their OS as Apple also spams you with offers for Apple Music, Apple Fitness, and iCloud if you buy a new iPhone. Google also brings up pop-ups till you buy a YouTube Premium subscription.
