Uber is now adding a fuel surcharge Only temporarily Allowing drivers to pay for fuel as Gas prices around the country soar high. The company announced that on every ride, customers will have to pay a surcharge Somewhere from $0.45 – $0.55 on the trip, and Uber eats customers will have to pay Somewhere in the middle of $0.35 – $0.45 on each order, depending on the location.

The entirety of this price hike will be passed on to all the drivers that host the ride (Which can help pay for fuel with the extremely high price hike) and the plan for this surcharge will take place for the next 60 days. The company says that they will continue monitoring gas prices and they can also make additional changes to this policy they just released. They also said that this temporary fuel surcharge will take place for rides even done on EVs, They say they are doing this to serve as an additional incentive for drivers to transition to electric vehicles going forward.

There are a lot of benefits to hosting an electric vehicle on Uber, Which does include higher earnings for drivers that use electric vehicles as a $6000 discount off a Nissan LEAF, and also discounts on some vehicle charging. But The thing is that a fuel surcharge and EV benefits may not be enough to fully prevent this thing of high gas prices. Electric vehicles are still out of reach for a lot of people out there because of a lot of issues in the market right now like supply chain constraints, low inventory, and expensive prices.
