The people who access and pay their taxes online will now have to enroll in a third-party facial recognition system powered by a company named Krebs. The IRS or internal service revenue will require this facial recognition system this summer onwards.

They say that ID.me is a trusted technology provider of identity verification services. Also, the people who already have an account on ID.me From other government agencies can sign in with their credentials.

People who have already registered on irs.gov With a username and password will have to provide a government ID, a copy of a utility bill, and a selfie to ID.me (Letting you know this is a Virginia-based identity verification company.)

In their privacy Bill of Rights, ID.me Says that they do not sell load or trade biometric data to any third parties or derive any profit from the sale, lease, or trade of biometric data. (This is kind of a relief)

When you register for an ID.me Account you have to accept the company’s biometric consent policy. They collect facial and voice biometrics to verify identity and protect against fraudulent behavior.

Also, when you delete your ID.me OK, the company can keep your biometric data for many years depending on the nature of the data and in your relevant legal or operational retention needs.

You might remember this company from earlier in the pandemic. If you do live in the US. Many US states used this company to verify people applying for unemployment benefits.
