Spotify or Apple Music? Here’s why Spotify’s better

Apple has lots of rivals and the list is growing as the company explores new fields. With all the different spaces Apple is currently dominating. Another space they’re trying to dominate now is music, with a very major competitor. Enter ━ Spotify

Algorithms and Music Discovery

#1. Spotify Discover Weekly Playlist

Spotify’s music discovery algorithm is one of the best. After using it for a while, the algorithm learns which kinds of music you might like and it’s very accurate. Also recommends music by artists that you probably haven’t ever heard of, songs you might like but won’t get to hear on the radio or at friends’

#2. Apple Music Made For You playlists

Apple Music is very blunt. The algorithm is just dumb. Apple offers five personalized playlists that update weekly. It’s just not reliable for listening to the freshest songs from the artists you care about.

UI and UX

Spotify is more fluid and responsive than Apple Music. Spotify is a lot more intuitive too. Spotify also includes podcasts in the same app instead of releasing a separate one. Also, Apple doesn’t offer a free plan, so all of its users are paid.

Continuity

Spotify Connect

Spotify Connect is the kind of magic you’d expect Apple to be better with. It allows you to control everything on any of your connected devices on WiFi. You can stream from your Mac as you work from a cafe, then seamlessly transfer the queue to your iPhone to listen as you commute back home. The process is instant and doesn’t interrupt your listening.

Availability

Spotify is optionally available for free with limitations, while Apple Music forces you to subscribe to a paid plan. Apple Music is available on Android, Windows, the web, some smart TVs, and consoles in addition to Apple operating systems. Spotify supports the same platforms, though its app is more polished.

Features

Spotify Wrapped 2021

At the end of each year, some services offer users summaries of their listening habits and statistics. Spotify Wrapped includes more detailed stats that beat Apple’s. They also allow you to view them directly inside the app, while Apple makes you visit a website and log in again.

Spotify offers an equalizer and crossfading support, which you won’t get on Apple Music. Spotify also allows users to collaborate on playlists. This enables you and your friends to have playlists that you can all add songs to.

Dolby Atmos and Lossless quality icons in apple music

Apple although offers lossless audio and Spatial Audio at no additional cost. The music becomes very lively with Dolby Atmos and motion tracking.

These features aside, both platforms offer almost the same sets of main features, come on it’s just a music streaming app

Here’s the Deal

Apple Music is included in the Apple One Premier bundle many people use while being in the Apple Ecosystem, you wouldn’t want to pay for a music app separately while you’re already paying for a service that allows you to do that with a decent streaming app, would you? Many people use Apple Music not because they want to, but because in a way they feel forced to.

Using third-party music apps on iPhone is a struggle. Also, Apple Music has more system privileges and is better integrated into the OS — despite it being worse than Spotify.

Verdict

If you’re not tied to the Apple Ecosystem (like a service like “Apple One”) even if you own Apple devices, go with Spotify.

If you ARE TIED to the Apple Ecosystem, there’s no other choice, is there? Use Apple Music
