Let me get this straight, if you own a Drone, and it’s worth a damn, It’s made by DJI.
Here’s the thing. DJI has been leading the drone market for years on-end now, and I’m sure they’re going to be leading the drone market for years to come.
But before you get to know about the possible future of the Firm, let’s dive into the past and know more about the firm.
Some DJI Facts.
DJI, stands for Da-Jiang Innovations, is a Chinese technology company headquartered in Shenzhen, China with manufacturing facilities throughout the world.
DJI manufactures commercial drones for aerial photography and videography. It also designs and manufactures camera gimbals, action cameras, camera stabilizers, flight platforms and propulsion systems and flight control systems, the firm also accounts for around 70% of the world’s consumer drone market as of March 2020, with no other company accounting for more than 5%. The company’s products are also used by militaries and police forces.
History
The company was founded in 2006 by Frank Wang (Wang Tao). Wang built the first prototypes of DJI’s projects in his dorm room, selling the flight control components to universities and Chinese electric companies. He used the proceeds to move to the industrial hub of Shenzhen and hired a small number of staff in 2006.
DJI began to cater more to drone hobbyists in markets outside of China. In 2011, they founded DJI North America, a subsidiary company focusing on mass market drone sales. In 2013, DJI released the first model of the Phantom drone, an entry-level drone which was more user-friendly than other drones on the market at the time.
In January 2020, the United States Department of the Interior announced that it would be grounding around 800 drones, which it had been using for wildlife conservation and infrastructure monitoring purposes. As of March 2020, DJI holds nearly 77% of the US market share for consumer drones, with no other company holding more than 4%.
In 2020, DJI drones are being used by many countries around the world to combat the Coronavirus. In China, DJI drones are used by the police force to remind people to wear masks. In other countries, such as Morocco and Saudi Arabia, DJI drones are used to disinfect urban areas and monitor human temperatures in order to contain the spread of Coronavirus.
So as we know, DJI makes a lot of products and their Drones are the reason you’re here and reading about them. Drones used to require a lot of learning and operating skills in earlier times.

But when DJI came out with their lineup of Professional Drones which were a whole lot easier to use, this appealed to the normal people, not just the real professionals.
Slowly, DJI started to change the entire Drone Market and Drones became equally accessible to everybody, not just cinema grade filmmakers and the army. Drones from DJI were so easy to handle, people who had never flown Drones could now take cinematic shots themselves too.
DJI has now branched out to a lot of other markets, they make stuff like:
- Flight systems like independent controllers
- Camera stabilization, platforms like Ronin, Modules
- UAVs like Flame Wheel; Phantom; Mavic; Spreading Wings; Inspire; Matrice; Spark; FPV
- Camcorders like Osmo; Zenmuse gimbal-cameras
- Goggles for FPV drones
- Educational robots for children like RoboMaster S1; RoboMaster EP

But they are still known and praised for their lineup of Drones. These guys did have a hard time trying to dethrone the GoPro from the market with their Osmo Lineup but they eventually failed in doing so. The GoPro’s kind of have an unbeatable form-factor. DJI also manufactures Gimbals and external image stabilizers and they really do lead the market there, facing some competition from Zhiyun with their Crane lineup.
These guys recently announced the DJI FPV Drone which they had been teasing for 2 years and this was a real step ahead from the Drones the typically used to make.
DJI has been setting records after records with every new generation in their lineup, it’s like every new model has a huge generational leap from the previous one, and every new generation gets more easy to handle and operate. There’s surely going to be a day when these drones fly themselves without the operator solely based on AI.
All of this stuff in a Sentence
DJI makes easy to fly drones and have a lot of variety within a lot stuff (not cheap) whatever they make, its highly technologically advanced yet easy to handle. This the main reason for the undeniable success they’ve had in all of these years of their existence.
