Even though wireless earbuds can be convenient, you usually need to carry a case around with you to keep them charged. Why not open your wallet instead? In Huawei’s opinion. The Chinese company has hinted at a smartwatch called Watch Buds that comes with earbuds that you charge beneath the dial, The Register reports. Although the company postponed a consumer launch event for the winter that was supposed to take place today, there are already some hints as to how this unusual design will function.

According to images that Huawei Central has obtained, the earbuds are attached to the underside of the dial and rest there when the watch is shut. With a steel case and a similar design to the Watch GT series, The device apparently runs Huawei’s in-house HarmonyOS and has a design that is reminiscent of the Watch GT series, complete with a steel case and leather band. Even though the specifications are unknown, it won’t come as a surprise if the watch has a sizable battery given that it must also power the earbuds.
Meanwhile, an early hands-on video from QSQTechnology shows that magnets are used to secure the earbuds to the watch. The design of the buds is nondescript, and they don’t appear to be particularly pleasant – this is more about convenience than anything else. Both the Watch Buds’ official release date and the nations in which they will be sold are uncertain. Given Huawei’s reputation as being unwelcome, we most definitely wouldn’t bet on a US launch. If there is a market for the design, it won’t come as a surprise. Without anything other than a smartwatch, you could listen to music while out walking, and you’d never have to worry about losing a charging case.
